Building worlds that create stories
Captivating settings in place and time are crucial in fiction and nonfiction. In this masterclass we’ll talk about ways to bring worlds to life, discussing the special encounters that settings create for characters, and considering how the opportunities and constraints of any location will shape our stories. We’ll also pay attention to detail and description in the fabric of our storytelling: how much is enough?
* Each masterclass will run on Zoom, with discussion on this month’s topics, plus a writing exercise and Q&A.
* A week before the class, you’ll be emailed optional homework: brief preparatory readings as well as writing exercises.
* After each class, you’ll also be emailed a unit workbook with notes on craft as well as writing experiments, reading recommendations and further resources.
* Classes will be live. Recordings will not be available.
