Build Your Own Creative Writing MA

A practical guide to training yourself as a writer

Zoom seminar with Kit de Waal and Andrew Wille
Tuesday 8 September 2026, 7-8.15pm London, £25

The MA and the MFA are long-established pathways in creative writing, but they are not the only ways to gain a deep and rigorous education in the field. Curious and resourceful writers can create an affordable and wide-ranging course of studies by taking classes on key topics while developing a structured approach to their writing.

This seminar outlines the essential ingredients of a strong MA in Creative Writing: the knowledge of craft and technique that will illuminate and elevate your storytelling, the practice that cultivates skills and insights, the professional development that prepares you for the world of publishing. We’ll also cover practical matters such as finding useful classes, organising writing groups and workshops, and handling feedback on your writing. The session concludes with a Q&A.

At the heart of everything we’ll identify the most important lessons: growing your instincts in writing, finding your own answers, and learning to trust your own creative vision.

Kit de Waal is an award-winning author and Andrew Wille is an editor who has worked with many successful authors. Kit has an MA in Creative Writing and Andrew has an MFA in Writing and Poetics, and both have taught writing at masters and undergraduate levels in universities as well as independently.

* After the class you’ll also receive a handbook of resources and useful suggestions, including recommended courses, an adaptable syllabus, reading lists, writing experiments, and a checklist of craft topics and terms.

* The seminar will run live on Zoom, and a recording will not be available.
