Genres & Readers

 A Zoom Masterclass

Monday 11th November 2024, 6pm – 7.30pm London time

Genres & Readers: A Masterclass by Andrew Wille

What’s your genre and who are your readers?

Explore the conventions of writing genres for the ways they help in shaping and pitching our stories. We’ll probe the intersection of taste and technique in various categories of writing, from page-turning commercial genres and upmarket fiction to literary works and experimental prose. We’ll also navigate feedback on our writing, survey the querying process with agents and editors, and discuss writers’ relationships with publishers and the book trade.

* Each masterclass will run on Zoom, with discussion on this month’s topics, plus a writing exercise and Q&A.

* A week before the class, you’ll be emailed optional homework: brief preparatory readings as well as writing exercises.

* After each class, you’ll also be emailed a workbook with notes on craft as well as writing experiments, reading recommendations and further resources.

* Classes will be live. Recordings will not be available.
